Recovery Hero: Trish McPeek
Another week, another recoery hero. We all appreciate this women so much and are thankful for sharing her story with us!
Hello, I’m Trish McPeek. I’ve been in recovery for 2 years and 8 months.
Prior to my recovery, I was withdrawn from every aspect of my life. Alcohol consumed me. Towards the end of my drinking career, I was not a pleasant person to be around even when I wasn’t drinking. I discovered alcohol wasn’t the only reason for this. In 2012, before I started day drinking, I was diagnosed with a mood disorder. Just like alcoholism, mood disorders are progressive. They get worse with time if left untreated. They also feed off each other like combative siblings and will take you down if you let them. I am here as proof that it is possible to live a happy and fulfilling life, but you have to be proactive about your medication, therapy and your alcoholism in order to be successful.
About 18 months into my recovery I was looking for my place in the world, my purpose outside of my home. That’s when I heard about SRC and in April 2019, I reached out to them about becoming a volunteer. It didn’t take long before I knew I had found my niche in the world and eventually became their Volunteer Coordinator. You kn
ow how they say if you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life? I LOVE my job and all of the people I get the privilege to work with. This job enables me to give back to my community and help others find their place at SRC.
