Our Recovery Hero of the week, Luke Johnson!

My name is Luke Johnson and I have been trying to recover my life back, become a better person, and just be plain happy and proud of myself since May 13, 2011. A severe opioid and poly-substance use disorder is what brought me to my knees. I have met so many great people and I worked for various treatment, rehabilitation, and nonprofit organizations where I got to see others grow and change their lives.

My entire life before recovery was a low point for me. Don’t get me wrong, I had an amazing childhood, family, and tremendous friends growing up; where I made some of the best memories I have ever had and life was really good. But life was always painful for me, I was shy, I had a lot of shame, I didn’t know how to communicate well with others, and I was codependent on other people’s perceptions of me. Today, I have a job that allows for me to give back to my community. I am able to train recovery coaches at Springs Recovery Connection, I also coach on a limited basis as well.
