My name is Ellen Elizabeth and I have been in recovery for almost 4 and a half years. During this time, having my twins is by far my biggest accomplishment. I was able to complete the process of IVF with my husband, endure the twin pregnancy, and experience the joy of raising them completely sober! The hardest thing for me before entering recovery was looking into my eyes in the mirror; with disgust, hatred, and shame, knowing that it was completely in my hands to make a change. This happened over and over again while I still didn’t make the change. This made the cycle SUD much more viscous for me. Today, I’m volunteering once a week at Springs Recovery Connection, operating telephone recovery support to clients in need. I am also on the path to become a certified peer recovery coach.
