Cross country trip raising awareness for veteran mental health

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An organization is traveling across the country for a suicide prevention and mental health awareness tour, carrying the message “Leaving No Veteran Behind.”

American Veterans’ (AMVETS) seven-city journey started in Colorado Springs on Wednesday, May 13. The journey is designed with one goal in mind: to increase responsiveness to veteran suicide awareness and prevention. According to AMVETS, reported averages of veteran suicide have declined from about 22 to 18 deaths per day.

While the data reflects progress, AMVETS said its mission remains urgent.
