The Veterans Peer Course is a 16-hour training focusing on providing individuals with the skills needed to guide, mentor and support military service members and veterans who would like to enter into or sustain long-term recovery from a substance use disorder, with alcohol or other substances, and mental health issues as a result of military service. This course prepares participants by helping them to actively listen, ask good questions, and discover and manage their own stuff while serving others.

Upon course completion, Veteran Peer Coaches will:
Understand the prevalence of substance use disorder within the veteran communities.
Develop veteran-specific cultural competencies, and identify the different levels of trauma that affect veterans.
Build a list of community based resources available to veterans.
Identify individualized solutions to prevent relapse (PTSD, mental health, health & wellness, employment barriers, etc.)
